Pakistan received a body blow on Saturday as ace quick Shaheen Shah Afridi was ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup due to injury. The 22-year-old has been advised to rest for the next 4-6 weeks and would therefore miss the Asian Cup and the home series against England.

Pakistan suffered a massive blow on Saturday when star pacer Shaheen Afridi was ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup due to a knee injury sustained in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

The PCB said it expects Afridi to be fit for the T20I tri-series in New Zealand in October, including Bangladesh, ahead of the T20 World Cup.

 

Knee injury

Afridi suffered a right knee ligament injury during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month and has played no part in the ongoing tour of the Netherlands despite being in the squad. Babar Azam had said before the series that Afridi will not play more than one ODI against the Netherlands to be fit for the Asia Cup, which starts on August 27. His absence is a significant blow to Pakistan's tournament hopes.

 

"Shaheen is our best bowler so of course, we will miss him," Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan said. "It is unfortunate that he will not be available for the Asia Cup. But we hope that he will be available for future series and the World Cup. We will have to play ruthless cricket. Our team culture is that we never let up." against any team."

 

Why do we need Shaheen Shah Afridi?

 

In recent years, the 22-year-old Afridi has established himself as Pakistan's premier bowler in all three formats and is, alongside Babar, Pakistan's best-known and best-selling cricketer. Pakistan started its Asia Cup campaign against India on August 28 in Dubai. Afridi played a key role in Pakistan's 10-wicket win against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, the last time the two teams met. In this game, Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over of the match and bowled KL Rahul with the first ball of the third over. A spell of 3 for 31 in four overs earned him the Player of the Match award.

A new technology called knee kinesiography is changing the way doctors treat osteoarthritis of the knee. This form of osteoarthritis affects nearly four million Canadians, or 13.6 percent of the population, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Osteoarthritis of the knee is most common in people over the age of 60, but it also affects a significant proportion of younger people, even those in their 40s. For as yet unknown reasons, women are more likely to develop osteoarthritis than men.

 

In osteoarthritis of the knee, the protective cartilage in the joint wears down over time and can lead to bone rubbing against bone. The disease is associated with aging, but can also be caused by injury or other forms of physical stress on the cartilage.

 

Anatomical abnormalities and other hereditary factors can also lead to mechanical knee dysfunction. This can result in misalignment of the knee joint, which increases pressure on the cartilage. It is imperative that clinicians fully understand the dysfunction in order to correct it.

 

Our research in biomechanics, chronic pain, radiology, epidemiology, physiotherapy, and data science led us to develop and evaluate the clinical utility of a new technology called knee kinesiography, which is used to treat osteoarthritis patients in Québec.
